This piece features hand washed, carded and spun wool from two sheep named Kiwi (Blue Faced Leicester breed) and Gamora (BFL/Clun Foest/Dorset breed). Both sheep are from Loch Loch Lomond Livestock in Saskatchewan. The Wool is highlighted int he overshot pattern wear, while the background is commercial bamboo yarn.
Overshot is a traditional heritage style of weaving, an expression of the amalgamation of immigrant weaving traditions as settlers reached the eastern United States and Canada. Traditionally, it was used to weave coverlets and blankets that would be handed down through the generations. These pieces using hand spin yarns would take hundreds of hours to complete!
