This piece feature a hand washed, dyed, carded and spun overshot weft from a sheep named Gamora (BFL/Clun Forest/Dorset breed) against a background of hand dyed bamboo.
Overshot is a traditional heritage style of weaving, an expression of the amalgamation of immigrant weaving traditions as settlers reached the eastern United States and Canada. Traditionally, it was used to weave coverlets and blankets that would be handed down through the generations. These pieces using hand spun yarns would take hundreds of hours to complete!
This piece is based off a pattern that was popular in the Huron area of Ontario in the 1850-75 time period.
Size: 25" W x 37" L (including fringe)
Comes with walnut stained dowel rod and custom leather straps for hanging.
