This piece features a hand washed, dyed, carded and spun overshot weft from a sheep named Gamora (BFL/Clun Forest/Dorset breed) against a background of hand dyed bamboo.
Summer and Winter is an overshot weaving technique in which the finished product (usually a coverlet for a bed) has reversible sides. Typically woven with high contrast warp and weft, the lighter side of the coverlet would be facing in the summer seasons, and then flipped during the winter so the darker side was visible. The tree pattern was a historically popular motif.
this wall hanging is also reversible, so change it with the season - or your whim!
